next year, I enter high school. I am also faced with the dilemna of which instrument to stick with: alto sax or trumpet.
I have weighed each over and over about 5 times, but I still can't think of which one I would rather play. on the one hand, alto is a jazz instrument, and I've been playing it longer, meaning I'll get into more things. But on trumpet, it's a very versatile instrument. it can be in pits, orchestra, jazz, almost everything. I really don't know what to choose, and I want some advice on how to choose. I've already gotten:which I like more, and which I want to play. On both, it wound up a tie.
Any advice?

You're asking us folks on the sax web what instrument you should stay with?
Hmm... let me see... I'll have to get back with you on this one.

I'm curious why you need to choose... if you do need to choose though ... I would weigh in what the director plays... if he plays trumpet or brass I would say trumpet ... but if he's a sax/clarient guy then I would go with sax... if the director is a drummer (let's hope not  lol) or plays flute... that doesn't help...

You'll save a lot of money if you play trumpet...no reeds to buy. they seldom need adjustment, and a top quality trumpet can be had for maybe $1200. Plus you don't carry heavy cases and hang weight from your neck. Of course, you end up with nasty looking lips and spend much of yout life playing almost in tune at very high volume. And you can't blame everything on the reed.

I suggest you play both. Years from now you will be glad you stuck with both. Many of the posters on this site play more than one instrument, sometimes several.

Choose trumpet, there are already too many sax players :D
No, really, go with what you really like as a major instrument and keep the other as a double. If you don't know which one you really like, look at your CD and music collection: is it more sax or trumpet?

I think I'm gonna go with Mike W. I don't think I'll be able to ever decide.
just to add to retread's thoughts...
As a trumpeter, you'll already hangin with the bro's, sickin up some suds, hopefully with some pulchritude you met at the gig while the woodwind guy's still swabbing out his equipment and packing up
Seriously though, please tell us why you need to chose one over the other. I play both and dig 'em both (although I know what MY answer would be if I could choose only one),
