I have created a website on Geocities. I want to creat a link so some one can hear the songs I upload. I created an mp3, but I can't upload it to the website as it says it has to be a .wav file and .wav files take forever to upload and probably download.

Can anyone help me.

Create your wave files at a lower bit rate and they will be smaller, therefore easier to up/download. The sound quality will suffer a little as the bit rate decreases, but if you choose something in the middle the sound will be good enough for PC audio w/o sounding lousy.

A wav. file is going to be too large for most people to want to download even if you reduce it in size. What most do is convert the wav. file to MP3. You can download free conversion programs that will do this. E.g. RealPlayer has a conversion program in its free basic package. The MP3 file itself should be no larger than 96 bps or so. At that bit rate, a 4-5 minute recording will take 8-10 minutes to download on a dial-up system and 30 seconds on DSL. Check out most of the posters on this thread in the large 29 page part, and you will find all are using MP3 files at 96bps or less. Geocities will accept MP3 files - mine does. You may have to check into the configuration in the menu portion of your web creation program. I created mine with Yahoo SiteBuilder and did not have any problems. The only thing that Geocities requires a wav. file is if you want to play an MP3 in the background while someone browses your site. That's why I have never put one on my site to play while it is opening and while people browse it - a wav file is just too large to upload and too large to download.
