Hi: I'm 49 and have'nt played sax since is was 16. I actually used to be pretty good for my age. Im going to try and pick it back up. I'm looking at a Yalaha YAS23. Any thoughts on this horn. Also any advice on books and/or CD or Vidoes. I really wont know how much I remember till I get the horn and start blowin. But I'm really physced and ready to go. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. 8)

plaisgar: Welcome back. I think you should expand your search for an alto saxophone. While the YAS23 is a solid horn (albeit less-than-inspiring, in my opinion), you may be happier with a higher quality instrument. The YAS23 seems suitable for youngsters likely to bounce it around marching band, etc. Guys your age (and mine - 63) most likely appreciate something more esoteric.
There are many exciting horns on the market, including vintage horns. I recently bought a new Unison and for the money (less than a new YAS23), it hs a wonderful horn - and easy on the eyes, too (matte gold- plated finish with highly polished gold-plated keywork and hardware - stunning!). DAVE

Hey there, it is never too late. I have been playing sax since I was 14, clarinet since 12. I stopped for a while, started again for a while then put the horn in its case again to study the drums. I have since started to play regularly again, I never really stopped, but not real serious. I am doing my scales and such and I am goin to start taking lessons again. I am even thinking about taking classes in school, maybe looking at teaching music in the future. It is never too late. Good luck :D :D
