I am thinking of buying a new alto and the A901 is within my price range. The only thing that is causing me second throughts is the following comments from a dealer on the web:-
However, you may find the transition between the B and Bb fingering difficult because it requires you to lift your hand off temporarily and placing your hand back down instead of using the rolling hand movement.
Has anybody experienced this, as a late bloomer I would appreiate comments before I go out and conduct my own trials.

cheers

Don't know about the alto, but that's not true of the 901 tenor, and I doubt it applies to the alto. And as a practical matter, how often does one move between low Bb and low B? BTW, I'm very impressed with the 901. Great playing sax.

I have a A-901 but the problem you said is not significant on my horn. Also, I've ask a tech to make re-adjustment, which fit to my small hand & short finger very well. After this, all my friends said my A-901 keywork much better than A-991 original keywork.

PS: The problem you have mentioned has be adjusted by a experienced tech, an easy job for them.

AJ Curtis - That phrase you mention is from the Starland website/catalogue. Its nonsense, the LH table on a 901 series horn is just as good as any other modern horn. Starland made a mistake in their description. The 901 series are fantastic horns. The guy who did the Saxophones.co.uk reviews used to be my teacher, I know for a fact he used an A901 professionally. I have a T901S and it is a really slick horn.

The A-901 horns are by far the best in that price range. There's a guy in South Carolina that has been selling them new occasionally on eBay with a $1295 Buy It Now. That's sickeningly cheap for such a great horn!
