I use a HR link 7* and Java 3.5 reeds
I want to try something with a bigger tip opening, any recomendations?
I'm kind of going for a Wayne Shorter-ish sound

Unless you're crazy about your Link now, you might want to send it off to get refaced as an alternative to buying a new piece, considering Shorter played HR Link's as well (I think).

Also, practice, transcribe, emulate... etc

runyons project quite well and give a good sound generally, guardalas good project quite loud, both quite good for altisimmo,as a rule,
the king guardala is about equivalent to a 9 in a link more or less, runyons are just a little smaller in openings ie a 8 is about the same as a 7 link,
lots of other pieces to try just depends what sound you are after really, jazz or rock etc?

Get a bigger opening, try La Voz reeds. That's all he ever played.

did shorter use links all through his playing?..you may need something more open ?...and probably a piece that projects more than a standard hr link.

He always used metal and HR links in 10 openings, I think. Pretty big openings, if not 10s.

I try to go for a hard bop sound, I like it pretty dark, but with a little edge so I don't sound like a classical player
