I wasnt really sure where to put this, so I though I'd stick it here...

Hello-

I'm rather new to the forums, so first of all, I've been playing the alto for about four years now. I take private lessons, play in the band at school, and in a small group outside of school with a few friends.

Recently, however, I've run into a problem that has made it difficult for me to practice. After I've been playing for a while, especially if I've been playing loud and hard, I start to get a bit of a burning feeling in the back of my head and nose. When I asked my instructor, he called it 'acid head', and told me to take a few minutes, and drink a glass of water. This helps occasionally, but it still bothers me, and I'm confused as to why I've never really had a problem like this before. :?

Can anyone offer some more advice?

See if anything in your diet or routine has changed lately. Obvious place to start would be your sax... sudden leaks? New reeds, mouthpiece? Practicing more? Check to see if anything else has changed. And if nothing really has, see a doctor. That is NOT normal.

I talked more with hin today, and he thought it might be heartburn. I've had problems with it before, but struck me as odd that I was getting it while playing :( . I guess next time I'll take a few tums before I practice ^_^.

If You play for long time in the same position with shoulder strap around Your neck (especially playing loud and hard), circulation in the neck might slow down and then pain, burning and dizziness can appear. Maybe this helps. If this is it, You just have to stop practicing for a few minutes stretch Your neck and then continue with practicing.

See a physician. We are not qualified to diagnose physical symptoms like this.

Definatly see a doctor, its probabuly nothing, but seeing as its todo with ur neck and head, its not worth the risk
