My dad made me a case for my curved buescher TT soprano for a christmas present. I posted pictures of it in another thread and due to a lot of positive comments my dad was wondering if there was much interest in his case? If their is some demand he may think about possibly making them. Let me know what you think.

I think that will totally depend on the price. Also, for larger cases (alto/tenor) I personally would like to see metal re-enforcements along the edges for a case that sees regular usage. Collectors might feel differently. It is one beautiful piece of craftsmanship and there might be collectors who are willing to to pay a lot for cases of this beauty. So you will probably need to consider whom you will cater to.

Congrats with your fantastic and unique Christmas present!

Yea, you really can't pose the question without giving at least a ballpark idea of price. I assume these would have to be pretty high end prices-wise to justify the cost of materials and time. Looks nice in the pics. It would be good to get a few pictures that include the entire case both in closed and open position. Has he been careful to select materials that won't damage sax finishes - I remember this issue was discussed ages ago on the forum.

Is he doing it to make money or to keep busy? I bet collectors would hop all over those if you were able to market them right. Not sure a lot of giggers would want to use that nice of a case, but to keep a "show horn" that does a lot of lounging around the house, that's fantastic. I'm actually working on modding a low a wood case with my dad to fit my Bb mark VI, but the discussion of building a case from scratch came up. Your dad was lucky it was a curvy not a bari. Your dad has a lot of talent though, i'll give him that. Not a lot of people these days can do things like that by hand anymore.

My dad believes that he could make the curvy cases for around $225 I'm not sure where he is at yet on other sizes of horns. I know we wold be able to make cases that would fit a 10m and tenor. Also, Mk.VI styled horns in alto, tenor and sop. We could also build one for a detachable straight neck soprano too. To answer a couple questions there are actually metal corners on the case to protect from damage. The material on the inside I'm sure is safe for the horns finish it is just like the crushed velvet you see on all the vintage cases. I think my dad would just take a few orders at a time until he was sure he wants to do this. We can only make cases for the horn styles that I have so we can't make ones that fit too many vintage brands. Pm me with any questions or details you would like to know and I will get back to you.

Thanks,
Dylan

Some nicer pictures would be good, but that seems like a fair price for a case like that.

I'd love to have one for my Buescher TH&C tenor.
Can you send me the pix of your soprano case to my home email? Just PM me.

With the glut of alto/tenor cases out there, I'd stick to making the more uncommon cases; such as the curved, fixed neck soprano case you have. Especially at that price (and not a knock on the price, but just figuring it would be much more expensive for the larger horns).
