Ok, sort of misleading but true title.

I went to a Richard Elliot benifit concert in Southern California last night and during the intermission one of Richard's tenors was auctioned off as part of the festivities. This was a white tenor with St. Pauli Girl graphics that he played on tour and recorded with at times over the past 5-6 years. Anyway, the horn was bid up to $14,000 and the buyer and his wife looked to be legitimate. I was shocked that a Taiwanese made horn, regardless of who owned it, would sell for this much. This horn was used for a tune just before the break and of course Elliot sounded great playing it.

P.S. Excellent Show!

One of two explanations, some people have no sence. The other, and perhaps more fitting, would be that this was benefit and the large amount was more of a charity donation rather than a product purchase. In such environments people willingly overpay.

People who go to charity auctions (usually very rich people who don't do much anyway...) are not going to the auction to actually PURCHASE an item.

The are there to party and give money to the charity.

Remember, that $2000 horn just became a $14000 TAX DEDUCTION.

(and that's probably all they were looking for anyway...)
