Do selmer still make the flightech cases because they seem pretty hard to find? Or is it just me? :)

They are rather hard to find, and Matthew at Saxforte said they are discontinuing them, however he still has a few in stock.

Is there something wrong with them then or are they just taking them out the range?

I don't think it was very economical for them. With wwbw I never saw an option for the flight cases, and with the Reference Series getting the reference cases, I believe it just isn't economical for them to pay BAM to stamp the logo on the case. I know Matt @Saxforte says he doesn't sell a whole lot of them since the SKB and protec cases are much cheaper, and the Walt Johnson's had a larger market share. I believe the insides of the two selmer cases are identical, the shells are just different.

There are much better cases available. Hiscox for example.

If you want more features like outer/inner storage space, or a very high level of protectivity then that definitely would apply.

I think it's just what one might want in a case, though. I got mine when I bought my Serie II alto and they are a perfect match. The Selmer logo impression on the outside is part of the "stylistic" integration of case and saxophone. If one wants that integration and identification, then this case fills that bill. But you will pay for those qualities if you pay full retail, that's for sure.

Regarding its functionality, it is very compact; probably the most compact alto case I've seen. If that compactness is a factor - wanting to carry more than one carry-on on an airplane and get away with it, for example, or if you are carrying multiple instruments and want to lighten and minimise your load - then this case makes sense, vs. other cases with additional features.

Hi Gary you are really helpful. In the previous message are you talking about the selmer flight or the flightech? Thanks

I do love both the flight and the flightech! I think it's the grey leather finish and the pouch that does it for the flightech! :) of course i want the best case!

for "best case" the advantage is with the selmers, most horns are based off of their design and as such most cases follow suit. you'll see threats praising hiscox, bam, walt johnson. hickey's has the selmer flight for 270 i think, and this looks interesting http://www.the-tank.us/page1/page1.html. My buddy has one for his bass trombone, and it literally is built like a tank. Hickeys has that too for about the same price as the selmer.

Sorry. I mean the flight case, not the flightech. Throw the reference cases into the mix and there is some confusion. Selmer could've done a little better in naming their cases.

Now having said that . . . I like the flightech case but I got a Selmer (I guess Selmer USA) case off of the internet at a very reasonable price that IMO does the same as the flightech except for carrying it back pack style. My case is embroidered "Selmer Soloist" on the outside. I can't be sure, but I think it was around only $150.00. Could be wrong on that. Inside it is formed like any number of contemporary cases. My Serie II alto fits like a glove. The compartment forward of the bell is deeper than a Hiscox. They are good cases if you want a suitcase shaped case.
