Anyone know what the A stands for. THere is an A above the serial for ALto. I see references to "x" before or after the serial #s. THis is a '35 with New York NEck with M in from of Serial with an "A" after it.
Any clues?

Possibly it was stamped incorrectly at the factory and there were two altos or saxes with the same serieal number. The A after the serial could be there to distinguish between the two instruments.
If the A is above the serial it could be just letting you know that the instrument is an alto!

I believe Bootman is correct A = Alto.

I think he is asking about having both an A above and an A at the end.

Makes sense to me. The A after the SN could stand for "Again". :D
