My ship has come in, so to speak. I've got the tenor setup I wanted:

Cannonball BBGS tenor
Ralph Morgan 3C mouthpiece
Rovner Dark ligature
Hemke or Alexander Classique Reeds

After a flurry of mouthpiece purchases in the last year (one for soprano, one for alto, one for C-mel, and two for tenor - ok, it was a flurry for me, since I hadn't bought a mouthpiece since 1983), I'm probably set for another 20 years. My new Morgan piece for tenor gives me EVERYTHING I want out of the horn. It plays easily from top to bottom, a nice sweet tone with a lot of warmth and almost no raw edge (since I'm looking to blend into concert bands and classical quartets).

Anyway, for any of you out there looking to use your new Cannonball for classical stuff, I very highly recommend sticking a Morgan 3C on your horn. I now have Morgans for all four of my horns.

If your budget is tight, though, the "Classic C*" mouthpiece that you can get supplied with your Cannonball really is a nice mouthpiece. Just be sure to SPECIFY which mpc you want, or I'm certain you'll get either the Cannonball jazz 5* or 7 mouthpiece. The 5* is decent, but the Classic C* has a lot less edge. I haven't played the jazz #7 mpc.

I COULD NOT be happier with this horn now!

hey on the side of my cannonball alto mouthpiece it has a 5 on it...is that the classical one?
also, i've tried a vandoren 3.5 on it..is that too thick, or what are your comments on them compared to alexanders..i'm really thinking bout switching to alexanders when these things wear out

That's supposed to be a jazz mtpc.

I'm told that even 2 1/2 is too much; using a 2 is, I'm told, the best thing to use with that mtpc.
