I recently purchesed a Vondoren V16 mouthpiece. It is my first metal mouthpiece. I am really enjoying the different sound and things I can do with it. Are there any suggestions on how to make the transition from rubber to metal easier? Thanks

It just takes time. Play the V16 for everything.

Get some of the clear tooth patches and apply them 2-3 thick. This will do 2 things: (1) it will make your teeth more comfortable; and (2) it will open your mouth cavity more like it is with a hard rubber piece.

V-16 (T-75) is a bright tenor MP as know. What reed can make it sound more dark & rich? Hemke, I tried before but I don't like the sound. And I cannot buy DC Superial in my area. What is other good choice?

Yes, it's a bright mouthpiece. I couldn't get a "darker" sound out of it (a t77 v16) .

After several months of practice, I now have a dark tone with it :D , with the same reeds : RJSfiled 3M and V16 (seems logical) 3. I use a soft vandoren ligature (similar to a rovner), I'm not so happy with the optimum one.

The weaker the reed, the brighter the tone (for me). I get a real dark tone with RJSunfiled 3H, but harder to control.

So my advice (what I did) is : practice, long tone, practice, long tone, practice, long tone, practice, ...

the tone be with you !

I use V16 2,5 on the V16 T75. But when I want a darker tone I use a Vandoren Blue box 2 or 2,5.

You guys must try the new vandoren ZZ reeds on your V16 tenor pieces! Use the same strength you currentoy use on java or v16. The ZZs did not work well on every mouthpiece I played. However, the ZZs completely impressed me on the metal V16. I switched immediately...

I love my T75 , best tenor mouthpiece I have used in over 30 years. I agree as to put a clear patch on them, use it for everything and use V16 reeds or maybe ZZ (just tried and liked them on alto).
